Blackout Script Scene 1

This is how the actors will first enter the stage, Fifi is the leader for this and will let the others know when each level starts.
Level 1: This will be done in slow motion, youre objective being to check, writing you name with your nose. However when writing your name you must not seem out of the ordinary, you must seem natural and normal.
Level 2: This will be done in a panic state, whilst playing to hide. It may seem as if you are running from a monster.
Level 3: Playing to check once again, spreading across the room. There should also be a hint of trying to hide.
Level 4: You should be in a jelly like physical state, as if you have given upand broken. Start falling to the ground, being forced to give in. After a period of time music will start, this is the signal for the arms to start, leading into the next section of the play.

1. Everyone is scattered around the room where you will lay on your back with your arms by your side. You can lay on each other or be entangled with one another. The room will be split into 2 randomly, determined by birth etc. You are either group 1 or 2.

2. There will be a chosen leader near the centre, Edgar, that will lead the first movement of your right arm. Not everyone will be able to see the leader so use your peripheral vision to look at others in the room for guidance. Both groups lift their arms in a salute gesture, group one does this over four beats then slam their elbow to the floor, followed by their arm. Group two does the same after another beat. This is then repeated but instead of the salute gesture, a fist is used.
 Beat Rhythm group one: 1, 2, 3, 4, 1 2
Beat Rhythm group two: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1 2
(the " 1 2 " should be done as if it's a heartbeat)

4. After this, you leave a duration of 4 beats with you still laying on the ground. After these 4 beats (on the 5th beat), you will sit up straight away as if something has suddenly happened. Whilst doing this, you will say the word " imagine " but with volume added to your voice.
  
5. Then, you will act out the line " you wake up " without saying it by looking up towards the sky as if there is hope from above. Whilst doing this, you will still be sitting up in the position you were in from when you said " you wake up ".

6. Afterwards, you put your face in the palm of yours hands but it doesn't matter what position you're in as long as your face is in the palm of your hands.

7. With your face still in the palm of your hands, you repetitively say in a hushed tone " you open your eyes " as if you are trying to encourage yourself to open them. Forcing yourself to open them, but are unable to bring yourself to do it. A inner conflict should be shown while doing this. Edgar then will then open his eyes and look up, saying "you open your eyes." Everyone should then look up to the ceiling.

8. One by one starting with Kit, the leader, panic state emerges as everyone gradually starts to repeat "where am I?" Tobi after a appropriate amount of time shouts, in the centre of the space "where am I?!" He then falls backwards, the rest of the actors must break his fall, similar to the activity we did in previous lessons, he is then lifted above everyone's heads. Your arm should be fully stretched out supporting Tobi. Tobi will then be dropped and caught half way down, he is then lowered to the floor, everyone then bursts back and hides, spreading across the room.

9. Tobi's will then say his lines:

Bright lights

White walls

Stand up and turn to see

Metal door.

When Tobi talks about the metal door, he should turn to look at it or give some indication of where it is. So that the audience will understand the next section.

10. Everyone in room, starts to say "Oh my god", and turns to the metal door. Everyone must play to escape through the metal door. This means banging, shouting against the door. Olivia needs to be masked by others and face the audience, as she will stand on an actors knee and be lifted above the others. Another actor should put their hand underneath her arm to support her. Once Olivia has been raised she will say these lines:

Imagine you wake up

And your in a jail cell

You go up to the door

Bang your fists

Screaming, shouting

Everyone will then say, with volume added:

What am I doing here?!

After this everyone will scatter again, gradually moving to the floor. Leaving space for Jack's section.

11. Jack will enter the stage as the prison guard, looking down on the prisoners, showing no trust and that he is superior.
Thaliqua lines:
And imagine the police guy comes up to the door.
And he's like that.
When Thaliqua says the work "like" everyone leans forward towards Jack.
Jack's lines:
(Aggressively) Keep it down!
Everyone:
What did I do?
Jack:
Oh, do you not know?
Courteney:
You shake your head. And the police guy looks at like your a pure thug or something. Imagine he just looks at you and he goes
Jack:
Your getting charged with attempted murder.

12. Everyone runs to Jack and shouts at him with anger "What did I do?!". The actors then turn and ask the audience the same question expressing the same emotion.
Eleanor stands up at the front with her arms wide open to indicate everyone should be quiet at this point. After everyone is quiet, she says:
And you'd start remembering.
